As children arrive they are greeted warmly by their teachers and are given the
freedom to explore various learning activities. The activities are changed
frequently and include: playdoh, toys, musical instruments, blocks, books, dolls to feed and bathe, sand
and water for scooping and pouring, as well as paper, markers and crayons to
promote pre-writing skills. Centers are stocked with developmentally appropriate manipulatives to provide
important practice for emerging fine-motor skills.
Children spend part of each day exploring music and art including: paints,
shaving cream, chalk, glue, markers, stickers, paper, and crayons. Physical
development is an integral part of our day. Children work on gross motor
skills: climbing, running, peddling tricycles, pushing and driving, building
with large blocks, throwing and bouncing balls, and special activities and
games. A favorite part of the day is getting to and from the playground or gym
in our 6 seat buggy. Stops are made all along the way to observe or listen to
the sights and sounds of our school.
There are 8 children in a class with 2 teachers and a floater who helps when
needed.
