The Jr. Kindergarten uses developmentally appropriate activities to encourage
active exploration and experimentation, and to promote learning in a safe and
nurturing environment.
The four year old classes are very hands-on. We learn by doing! Children at this
age learn through play. Centers include the block center, dramatic play center,
art center, play dough center, writing center, reading center,
science/discovery center, computer center, snack center, water/sand table
center, and small manipulative center. Children work on skills such as: getting
along with others, sharing, taking care of our belongings, independence, fine
motor and gross motor skills, becoming aware of the print in our environment,
and beginning to recognize numbers, letters, and sounds.
The Jr. Kindergarten class is similar to the Three Day Four class in many ways.
The main difference is that the Jr. Kindergarteners come five days a week
instead of three days, and the children in the JK class tend to be a little
older. Another difference is that the Jr. Kindergarten class consists of 2
classrooms with 4 teachers (13-14 children in each room) and the children
actually change from one room to the other room at one point during the day.
Different activities are available in each classroom.
